With dye sublimation printing your artwork is first digitally printed out of a special sublimation printer that has heat reactive dyes inside. All you have to do next is use a heat press to apply the design to the garment because the heat activates the dyes while the pressure forces the dyes to bind with the fibers of the garment below. We have been in business for over 30 years. Not all screen printing companies can make full color shirts well. We have the equipment to do these large prints. With our full colors shirts, what you see in quality is what you are paying for. Our shirts are very well done and withstand a long time. We can print full color shirts with a process known as sublimation. Sublimation is the process of printing a design with a heat transfer. The design gets printed on a special paper that prints it in reverse. When we press the shirts with the design; the ink turns into a vapor and gets dyed into the fabric itself. The shirts must be white and 100% polyester. This will guarantee that the colors are nice and bright.

The design that you choose to have on your full colors shirts, must be large enough in scale and high resolution. When we scale up the design to fit on the shirt it will be large. If you have more than one size shirt in the order, the design will be different sizes. What will fit on a size small shirt may not fit right on the larger sizes.

Now you can choose between two different polyesters one is moisture wicking polyester which has a silky feel to it and the other is brushed polyester which has a cotton feel to it. Then we would print out your art onto heat transfer paper using specially made sublimation inks. Once we have your image printed onto the heat transfer paper with the special sublimation inks we will then line the image up with the t shirt. Once we have everything lines up we will then heat press the image and the shirt which causes the inks to turn into a gaseous vapor infusing into the polyester material of the textiles.

If you didn’t know before, then you know now: sublimation printing is a major player in the custom garment decoration world. Sublimation printing is a method of applying custom designs to garments, but it is uniquely capable of printing extremely high definition prints with countless colors. Typically, this type of printing is relegated to printing on 100% polyester to provide the most ideal results. The reason for printing on polyester is because, as a synthetic fiber, the sublimation process will cause the dye to bond with the material. For natural materials, like cotton, the bond does not occur and the dye will wash out in the laundry. So that begs the question, are you able to have sublimation printing on tri-blends?

In fact you can sublimate onto tri-blends, but the resulting image will be different due to the fabric content. Since tri-blends are a mixture of polyester, cotton, and rayon, the bond will occur only with the synthetic fibers. So the resulting print isn’t quite as vibrant because approximately 25% of the tri-blend material will not hold the dye, but there are applications for this ‘distressing’! Sublimation printing on tri-blends is a great way to create a ‘vintage’ look. Just incorporate some light distressing into your design and just like that you have a fresh, custom ‘vintage’ garment.

A lot of consumers prefer the feel of a tri-blend shirt over 100% polyester or cotton because it has the right balance of stretch, softness, and fit. So even though sublimation produces the richest colors and clarity on polyester, you can still get amazing sublimation printing on tri-blends too! Dye sublimation is a method of printing that has been adapted for use on fabrics. It differs from screen printing in many ways, but the biggest difference is how the print is rendered. In screen printing, colored inks are applied to the surface of the fabric in the shape of the intended design. Each color is applied separately until the entire design is completed. Full dye sublimation works much like other heat transfer methods but it is more sophisticated.

The sublimation process starts out with the artwork in digital format. Using a sublimation printer, the image gets printed out onto a sheet of heat resistant paper with special dye cartridges. The printed out artwork is lined up onto the blank garment and then put into a sublimation press for a brief time. During the time in the press, the dye on the sheet receives high heat and pressure which causes it to be released as a vapor. The material below will absorb the dye into the very fibers and lock the print in permanently. So unlike screen printing, the print is actually contained ‘inside’ the fabric of the garment and not on the surface.

Full dye sublimation is guaranteed to last a very long time and it won’t crack or peel either. Since the print isn’t on the fabric, but rather inside it, you won’t be able to feel the print, only the fabric of your garment! Originally, dye sublimation printing was used for paper printing. The method allowed for paper prints that you couldn’t see the pixels even when you got really close to the image. After some time, technology was developed so that dye sublimation could be used to print on garments. Nowadays, sublimation printing is a very popular method for custom garment decoration.

Dye sublimation printing is different than traditional screen printing in some fundamental ways. Screen printing works by using colored inks over screens that have an image on them. The ink is pulled across the screen with a squeegee and the ink is laid on the surface of the garment in the shape of the design on the mesh. When all the colors of the design are printed, the garment goes into a dryer to set the print. The Dye sub process starts with a high resolution image that gets printed by a special printer onto a heat resistant paper. The dye used in the printer is formulated specially for sublimation. The image to be printed is laid over the garment and placed into a machine that will apply high heat and pressure for a short time. The dyes on the paper will be released as a vapor and absorbed into the material of the garment.

Because the dye sub process locks the image into the fabric, you know that a sublimated print will last the life of the garment.
